Early Literacy: Pillars of Reading and Interactive Read Aloud
Learning Outcomes: I can articulate the 5 Pillars of Reading and how to maximize the interactive read aloud routine to build background knowledge and comprehension for my students.
In this literacy sectional, participants will delve deeper into the 5 Pillars of Reading and how to support instruction in the classroom. One of these instructional supports intentionalizes the use of read alouds. Participants will explore the structure of Interactive Read Alouds and understand the impact it has on building background knowledge and comprehension.
Laura Deering graduated from Carroll University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood and Adaptive Education. She also holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Reading (Reading Specialist 316/317). Deering spent the majority of her career in the Appleton School District as a Reading Interventionist and Literacy Coach. Her passion is working with Teachers, Coaches and Administrators in order to support student learning.
