Early Literacy: Phonological, Phonemic Awareness, and Phonics
Learning Outcomes: I can articulate an anchor understanding of the 3 Phons and understand how the developmental continuum will help me in providing explicit instruction connected to the high leverage routines.
Building upon the previous sectional, participants will learn about Phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics instruction. You will explore the developmental continuum and learn the connection to high leverage routines to support student growth in these areas. We will discuss the importance of explicit and systematic instruction and the connection we need to make to reading and writing.
Laura Deering graduated from Carroll University with a degree in Elementary Education and a minor in Early Childhood and Adaptive Education. She also holds a Master’s Degree from the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh in Reading (Reading Specialist 316/317). Deering spent the majority of her career in the Appleton School District as a Reading Interventionist and Literacy Coach. Her passion is working with Teachers, Coaches and Administrators in order to support student learning.
