Fostering a Formative School Culture

A 2021 Wallace Foundation report on research claimed that school leaders can positively impact the learning for all students in their schools by creating a formative school culture. How can a school leader create and maintain such a culture? Research reveals the clues. This session reviews the research and uses it to provide practical suggestions for creating a culture of continuous learning and high achievement.

John Meyer (PhD) is the Martin Luther College (MLC) director of graduate studies and teaches graduate-level courses in areas of school leadership, school culture, and change. He regularly presents about educational change at national conferences like the AERA, EDUCAUSE, and Leadership in Higher Education. He has 21 years of experience as a principal and teacher in Lutheran schools.
